CVD Prevention Decathlon is a 10-week intervention aimed at patients with a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Patients enrolled onto the programme are provided weekly classes to attend in which they are educated on, and given support towards, healthy lifestyles. Sweatcoin, a physical activity-based reward app, is also used to incentivise patients to engage in exercise during and after the programme.
Our job at Unity Insights is to assess the economic impact of the intervention on the healthcare system by estimating the reduction in risk of developing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. As a result of this reduced risk of chronic illness, a reduction in treatment costs and an increase in the expected number of QALYs (quality-adjusted life years) is expected for enrolled patients, which we will be estimating in monetary terms.
