Dorset Mental Health Forum: Measurement and Evaluation Planning

How we worked with Dorset Mental Health Forum

Throughout the 24/25 winter period Unity Insights and Dorset Mental Health Forum (DMHF) collaborated to develop a Measurement and Evaluation Plan to support delivery of the charity’s strategic objectives for the next five-year period.

Using their experience in designing and delivering evaluation services across a broad range of settings and budgets, Unity Insights led a high-level review of DMHF’s services. Two workshops were held (one in-person and one remotely) to kick start a process of logic modelling and stakeholder mapping, building an initial understanding of the activities and impacts key service groups bring to people across Dorset. This provided an excellent insight into the charity’s activities and the benefits that these bring to the local community and health and social care system, amongst others. Using this information, a Measurement and Evaluation Plan was drafted to provide strategic guidance for DMHF staff, to inform the design of measurement activity, equipping the organisation to determine data collection plans to support future evaluation activity

Supporting strategic planning

The Measurement and Evaluation Plan is expected to inform DMHF’s ongoing development and delivery of the organisation’s mission and strategy to increase understanding of mental health and develop capacity within services and communities to bring about change.

Building on DMHF’s great track record of working in partnership with Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust through the Dorset Wellbeing and Recovery Partnership (WaRP), the Measurement and Evaluation Plan will inform and shape development work and future evaluation activities and communication plans.

The next phase of this work is the development of capacity and mechanisms for data collection and reporting to enable moving forward with specific evaluation activities that will capture the impact of DMHF’s activities upon the lives of people across Dorset.
